Inside An Old Barn

On a spur-of-the-moment turn into a driveway I was taken back, way back in history. Yes, it was a driveway where there is an old barn. I gingerly knocked on the door of the house. A man answered my knocking. I shyly asked if I could take pictures of his barn. He laughed and said, “Sure, no problem.” Then he added he’d come out and let me go inside the barn if I wanted to. If I wanted to! You bet I wanted to…  Once inside, I was taken back, way back in time as we talked about the work the men went to building this barn. We’re talking 100 years ago! The work of going out to cut the trees down with an ax,  drying them and stripping the bark off. Lots of work went into building this barn and others as well.  “This used to be a dairy farm,” Pat told me. Some of the old stanchions are still here. He held one open so I could take a picture of it.  See the old logs on this part of the barn.

The red doors in the top picture are new doors he said he just had to put up so he could still use the barn and get into it. Remember to click on the pictures to see them up closer. What a wonderful, fun lesson in history. Today he has goats and chickens…and cats.
