Still …Up On The Roof…

Well, here I am. I’m still on the sofa resting. Anyone reading this who is 60 years and older, go immediately to your doctor and get the shot that is available for …up on the roof…Shingles. This is ridiculous. I’m starting out my fourth week with this miserable disease.

I’m missing so much this weekend but I’m afraid of having a setback.

A grown-up tea party! I love tea parties. I had picked out a brightly colored flowered skirt and a red silky shirt to wear. My daughter-in-law, Jessica, was coming to fix my hair! We decided I’d better not push it, so I stayed home. I missed it!

A farewell time last evening for a young couple leaving for their first term of missionary work in Africa. Missed it.

Seeing my granddaughters dance at the mall this afternoon. Missed it.

An International Dinner this evening with our Chinese students. Will miss it.

We’ve decided I’d better not go to church again tomorrow. This will be my third Sunday to miss. The Sunday before I was diagnosed I went to church even though I knew something wasn’t right with me. I had no idea it was Shingles until the next day when I went to the doctor. Thank goodness I haven’t heard of anyone coming down with it or with Chicken Pox.

When I’m well, I’m getting the shot and so is Jerry. We’re not taking any chances of getting  up on the roof, Shingles, again.

Jerry is so patient with me. He just wants me to get well. One thing he hates to do is go grocery shopping but he’s doing it! He just came home from the grocery store again today. Two weeks ago today he was in the grocery store and who should he run into…our doctor! So he was able to give him an up-to-date report on me  without charge!!! 😉 Jerry reported to me what the doctor had in his grocery basket…strawberries, blue berries, muskmelon, watermelon, oranges and wine! Jerry was embarrassed for the doctor to see what he had in his basket…

The only thing that has helped me keep my sanity is having my lap top close by so I can keep in touch with the world! Writing and reliving trips to interesting places in this big world has kept me sane! I do hope folks read my Travel Logs. I have many more places to write about. The next one will be Paraguay.  I love comments!

Knowing that God is In Control here is also and even more importantly keeping me sane and giving me hope that this too shall pass. God is my Healer. I praise Him.

I was reminded by one of my granddaughters that as bad as I feel there is someone who has it worse than I do. I know that’s right. So I’ll stop complaining and wait for this to run it’s course.

You are being smart by resting and not overdoing it right now. I am glad you have made the decision to skip a few events. It is nice that Dad went shopping. He will really appreciate it when you take that job back.

    • Thanks for writing, Pam. It would have been harder to stay home if I felt better. But not feeling good made me really not feel like going. I know I’m missing some good times but I need to get over this once and for all. Dad goes to the store early Saturday mornings when not many folks are out yet. By early I mean about 8:00 AM right after breakfast.

Gene goes early to, but more like between 6 and 7 in the morning, to miss the crowds.
