Today would have been my mother’s 100th birthday had she lived just seven more months! We were going to have a big party! She told me about two days before she died that she guessed she’d not make it to 100! I assured her it was alright and how thankful I was that we had a big party on her 99th birthday! She smiled. It was a great party! Folks came from Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, South Carolina, Tennessee and oh, please forgive me if I left out a state!
She was 97 in this picture! She didn’t look her age! This is one of my favorite pictures of her!
I miss her every day but especially today! She was Mama, Mom and Mother to me. I thank God for her and for granting me the privilege of sitting beside her as she drew her last breath. (I live in Michigan and she lived in Colorado)
Seventy-one years ago, to the day, Mother gave birth to my baby brother. The doctors had told my dad, they were so sorry but neither one was expected to live! Billy weighed two pounds, nine ounces! The nurses surrounded him with hot water bottles! There was no incubator in the hospital! Mother was soooo sick and had even gone blind! But, thank God, they both lived! As Mother’s body healed she regained her eye sight. Then on Bill’s 71st birthday, Mother breathed her last breath.
Heavenly Father, thank You for my mother. Thank You for revealing Yourself to both my parents when they were a young couple with three small children. Thank You that they responded to Your love, asked forgiveness for their sins and accepted Jesus as their personal Savior. Thank You for the Christian heritage they gave to me. I loved Mother so much and You loved her even more!
A beautiful, loving story of your mother. She certainly does not look to be in her 70’s in her photo. God bless you as you remember your life with her and your family

Thanks for commenting, Ray’s Mom. I must make a correction. My mother was 97 in the photo, not in her 70’s. I’m in my 70’s and I don’t look that good! 🙂
