A Special But Emotional Weekend

Late Friday night our daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Gene, came from Chicago. They came for the memorial service of our good friend, Joan Schloemann. Besides being good friends, Joan and Penn were the youth workers at our church all throughout Pam’s high school years.

Saturday, the memorial service was so good and meaningful. The foyer and sanctuary were so beautiful, filled with pictures of Joan and flowers arranged in such a beautiful way. A singer friend of Joan and Penn sang two songs. One near the beginning of the service and one at the end. He sings in a Southern Gospel quartet and has a beautiful voice. He sang favorite songs of Joan’s but at the moment I can’t name them!!! If I think of them later I’ll write them in.

JoanTwo people gave tributes and then there was time for others too if they wanted to… I wanted to and was getting up my nerve to walk up in front when the pastor moved on! So I didn’t give my tribute to my good friend and now I’m sorry I didn’t just jump right up. I wrote it here on my blog so anyone can read it if they want to.

Pastor David Kessler and former Pastor Ward Sipes were the officiating ministers. They both did well. I think Joan would have been pleased!

The church was almost full of family and friends. There were at least 51 Michigan friends from their winter home in Florida!

Goodbye Joan. I’m picturing you in your new body praising Jesus! It’s a beautiful picture!

Sunday was another very special day! We went to second service. Our pastor is an outstanding preacher. Two people were baptized at the end of the service. It was very special, meaningful and emotional for me. One of the two was a young teenage boy, Hunter. Hunter BaptismHe and his family have moved to Alaska but he wanted to be baptized here in his  home church so the family is here for a visit. He is 17 years old now and just graduated from high school. He was one of my boys back when I taught Club 56, the class of 5th and 6th graders. He was very quiet and only spoke when I directed a question to him personally. It was a thrill for me to see and hear him tell of his love and determination to follow Jesus. Yes, I shed a few tears of joy! God has a plan for Hunter’s life and it’ll be interesting to see how it’s worked out! In this picture is Pastor Scott Palmiter, assisting Pastor Dave; Hunter; Pastor David Kessler.

God bless you, Hunter!
