We have a huge Cottonwood Tree over by our pond. I’ve never liked it. I took a picture of it last winter just because it’s so big and was so bare. Trees standing so stark and bare fascinate me. A few years ago lightning struck the tree and sent splinters of bark shooting yards away from the tree.
In the spring cotton flies all over in the air driving my sinus cavities crazy! BUT…I just learned something new about the big, old Cottonwood Tree!
My friend, Dean, who is a wood carver, was explaining to us about the art of wood carving. His wood is Cottonwood and came from Montana but the other folks in his class had Michigan Cottonwood.
Wood carvers use the bark of Cottonwood Tree’s to create beautiful creations! We never dreamed our tree would be worth anything! We mentioned to Dean about it, I went out after it rained all day and got a couple of pieces of bark to show him.
Yesterday the sun was shining so we took Dean out to see it. He was surprised! He’s inspecting it here. You can see it’s a very large tree and has been split by lightning.
I went back out there this afternoon to take another picture and discovered, what I think, is another Cottonwood Tree! Do they look the same to you?
Wow, these will make money! Do you have a Cottonwood Tree in your yard?
