A Chance Encounter

A convention of 425 women was held in our town this weekend. A former student of mine sent a message saying she would be here and was I attending the convention? I responded several days later and told her I would not be attending but perhaps we could meet at the lunch time for a few minutes. She didn’t respond.

Today was the day. Even though I hadn’t heard back from her, at noon I drove to the convention site. I went in and saw hundreds of women (425) but not one looked like my former student. I told a friend, who was over the sound system, that I was looking for a certain friend. I said she’s got black hair and is not tall. He hadn’t seen anyone like that. Then he pointed and said, “There’s a short, black haired woman sitting with her back to us, maybe that’s her.”

I walked around the table so I was facing her. She looked up and smiled as she got up to come over and hug me! I couldn’t believe I found her so quickly!

She had been an ESL student of mine from the time she was in kindergarten all through elementary school! This picture of her and me was when she was in first grade! Oh…you can see I used to be thin!!! What a thrill for both of us to find each other! We had a short meaningful visit. We plan to stay in touch. It was an encounter that was meant to be.

That is so neat Anita. First Grade, wow, awhile ago. God is good to bless with friends along our paths in life. We met a couple at the theater last night during the play also. They sang in some of the plays when we attended SAU. Now their daughter had the main part. They were Crydermans.
Liz and Dale, their daughter Lisa was Anna in the play.
