The Wild Life Sanctuary

Cookie took me to the Wild Life Sanctuary north of Greeley. It is amazing! It’s not a zoo, not a  place where they breed new babies. It’s a refuge for animals who’ve been abused. The majority of these animals have been confiscated by law enforcement agencies after they were found being kept illegally in basements, apartments, garages, barns, etc.

Pic 1 is a Black Bear.

Pic 2 & 3 is a brown bear with two orphaned bear cubs. The mother bear was shot and killed. The cubs were rescued and brought here. After they became used to this place the brown bear was put in with them sort of as a companion to take the place of their mother.

Pic 12 is a nice sign.

Pic 13 are lions. This was a lazy afternoon and they were napping. When they first bring the animals they have to be kept in a holding tank until they get used to being in a safe environment. One lion had been kept in a dungeon like basement. When he was brought here he was kept isolated and then finally allowed to go outside. He very gingerly stepped out onto the grass, he didn’t even know how to be free!

Gray Wolves.

Pic 16 is Cookie and me on the Walkway.

Pic 18 This walkway goes the entire length of the sanctuary. This is the only way people can view the animals.

Pic 19 is another Black Bear.                                                                                                                                   Pic 20 These are Bolivian lionesses. They are in a building and are being nursed back to health.

What a wonderful sanctuary this is! I’m very impressed and want to go back again some day.

    • Thanks for your comment, Bonnie. Yes, it was a great place to go. I can’t imagine people being so neglective of animals. But this place is amazing!
Yes, I did get your address, thank you so much. I haven’t heard from my niece who is mailing the books to me. I’ll call her now that I’m back home from Colorado.

This is quite a place to see. Hopefully it is well supported, the animals seem to be cared for.
