Why Did You Leave Me?

Why did you leave me so soon, Lorraine? My only sister.

Even though we lived half a country apart we kept the phone lines hot, usually in the night but sometimes earlier. Sometimes we discussed issues hot on the news scene, sometimes we discussed our families, seldom did we discuss politics. We mainly reminisced about when we were little children together: house/dolls,  paper dolls, playing school, jump rope, jacks, childhood cousins, friends and more. We spent hours, in the night, reliving our childhood. I’ll always have that memory. I’m clinging to it.

Our grandchildren were often our topic of discussion! We were both fiercely proud of each of our grandchildren.

Many times we discussed the rigid rules of the church, we grew up with. They were harder on you then on me, I don’t know why. It could have been our ages, you were two and a half years older then I. But it was probably more the difference in our personalities. One wasn’t better than the other, we were just different.

Our belief in God often came into the discussion. I stood firm and prayed that you would see Jesus in my life, in my words, in my dreams… I saw you change from rebellion…to wanting to believe…to believing. So I have hope…

We often talked and laughed about the longevity in our genes. Aunt Bessie lived to be 102, Great Uncle Will lived to be 101, Dad was 96 when he left us and Mother is still living at 98!  Neither of us wanted to live so long that we were a burden on our kids. But…Lorraine, this is too soon. Why did you leave me so soon? My heart is broken…  I’ll see you again someday when I join you. We’ll spend eternity together…

Dear Anita – I am so sorry to read about the loss of your sister Lorraine. I can’t imagine your heart ache and sadness, having never lost a sister. I do understand the closeness you felt and your sense of abandonment. I understand as well the lost opportunity for one last hug and a fair thee well! I know that you have stored up many beautiful memories throughout your journey together. My prayer is that even though the memories are devastating you right now, they will eventually erase your tears and bring a smile to your face and a twinkle in your eye and you will then cherish them. Let your family and friends who are surrounding and loving you now comfort you. May God put his loving hand upon you as you grieve and bring you peace as you struggle through the difficult days ahead. Remember the sun will shine again.

Thinking of you with love and sympathy

    Kathy

What a precious post post Anita 😦 The picture of you two, it looks like you both are in your early twenties, is so beautiful! I believe she is with Jesus now. xoxo
