Fun at the County Fair

Today was kid’s day at the county fair. That meant tickets could be purchased for $14.00 instead of $20.00 per child and they could ride as many rides and as many times as they wanted. My kids (grandkids) rode and rode and rode! Poor Armon got feeling bad after his first ride. He clung to me for quite awhile. I bought him a bottle of water ($2.00). We sat in a shady spot. The girls went on riding. Finally, all of a sudden Armon felt better and started riding the rides again, not the worst ones but he had a lot of fun.

This slide is the only way out of Crystal – Lils house of wonder. I’m not sure what was in it but the kids had fun.

Haleigh said she’d never go on this ride again!

Armon and I were resting in the shade when this kid started shooting him with large bubbles!

This year the bumper cars were

included in the over-all price. Some years it was extra. Elmise drove here but Haleigh is enjoying it! Look at her smile!

Armon drove the bumper cars and loved it! He rode them five times!

Bella loved the bumper cars too!

Fun swings.

We took a break in the middle of the afternoon for an elephant ear. They are so good!!! BUT they are half the size of what they used to be! $5.00 for one! We broke one up and shared it!

We’re going again tomorrow afternoon. I’m old and tomorrow is senior day so I get to park free! However, tomorrow the kids won’t be going on rides. The price will be $20.00 per child again. We’ll go through the buildings and the barns. We always come home with lots of free stuff! Pens, yard sticks, bottles of water, junk, etc. It’s fun and seeing the animals is fun.

Whenever I take the kids to the fair midway I’m reminded of one year, way back when my kids were small. I had taken them on kid’s day. Timmy was just a baby. But Pammy and Teddy got to ride the little kid’s rides. It was a very fun day. I pushed Timmy in the stroller. That night I couldn’t close one eye! I was so tired but I couldn’t close my right eye.

I knew that our neighbor was a nurse but I hadn’t met her yet. We decided I should call her and ask if she’d look in my eye. Her husband answered the phone and said she was still at work but would be home soon. She was a nurse at the Dow Chemical Plant and dealt with eye problems often. I waited and waited… She finally came home and looked at my eye. Oh dear, we needed to go to to where she worked because the right instruments were there so she could see into my eye. So my neighbor, Helen, and I got acquainted that night! I had a tiny speck of metal in my eye. She got it out. It probably came from one of the machines on the midway at the fair. I ended up going to an eye doctor, wearing a patch on my eye for a week. It was quite an ordeal!

But that experience didn’t stop me from taking my kids and now my grandkids to the fair. It’s a fun time and we all look forward to it every year.

Wow you are the best! I never did like the midway but love the exhibits and horse show, and the barns full of animals. My kids rarely went to the midway – once in a while with my Dad(Grandad)!! I took them to the Grandstand shows with Trapeze, acrobat and juggling acts!! I also took them to the circus to see elephants, lions and tigers!! We also used to go to the Lippizan Arabian Horse show every year…they loved that!!

  4. That looks like it was a lot of fun for $14 a person.
