What’s up on the roof? Shingles!
That’s what I’ve got, shingles. It’s the most painful sickness I’ve ever had! Having a baby isn’t a sickness so that doesn’t count. Thank goodness my computer is a lap top so I can have it here in bed with me! I don’t feel much like writing but I decided it’s time to share with the rest of the blogging world how miserable I am!
About two weeks ago I began to have pain in my right leg, starting in my hip and going right on down my leg. I had sciatic nerve problems a couple of years ago and I thought it was back again. I did a few exercises the physical therapist had me do but they didn’t help at all. Finally after a week of misery I called my doctor. They got me right in and I even got to see my own doctor, not one of the others in the same practice! He’s the best doctor in the whole state of Michigan!
I was telling him about my sciatic nerve problem, and asking if I could have physical therapy again, he was taking notes. Then he asked to look at my leg. “What’s this?” he asked pointing at some red specks on my leg.
“Oh that, I think I must have had a spider in my bed and he really got me!” I answered rather embarrassed.
The doctor looked them over and said, “These aren’t spider bites, you’ve got shingles!”
“Oh no, I don’t want shingles! My mom had shingles, I don’t want them!” But I had them. No wonder I was so miserable. And it’s only gotten worse. He gave me two prescriptions: one for shingles and one for pain.
I won’t go into all the details but I can tell you this: shingles is the most painful ailment there is. I’ve been lying down now for a week. Jerry went to the grocery store yesterday to pick up a few things and who should he run into…our doctor! He asked how I’m doing. Jerry told him I’m still in a lot of pain. The doc said not to allow me to do anything except lay here. Jerry said the only thing I had done all week was wash a load of laundry and the doc said I shouldn’t even do that! Rest…rest…rest. That’s all.
So here I lay on the sofa. I sleep, read, sleep, check my computer, sleep, watch TV, sleep. Oh yes, I eat when Jerry brings me a meal or a snack. He’s been taking very good care of me. He’s very patient with me. That’s why I love him so much!
So there you have it…what’s on the roof? Shingles!
I’m going back to sleep now…
